Pink Vibrations

Jessica Dunn & Jennifer Banks

Exhibition at Storage Space August 2023 (concluded)

Pink Vibrations, by Jessica Dunn and Jennifer Banks, is an ongoing immersive audio-visual collaboration exploring the realms of video synthesis, glitch, and utilization of “dead format” media like VHS and CRT TVs. Together, we transformed Storage Space Gallery through projection mapping, a CRT sculpture, and interactive installations including a fully functional glitch art photo booth during August 2023. During our exhibit, we debuted three video works on VHS tape, Factory Reset: Space & Time-Based Corrector, Pet Vibes TV, and ReBoot(Camp): Restore Your Hardware. For opening night, we performed live glitched visuals during performances by Tundra, M Moskaliuk, and Jessica Albatross. We also hosted a day of activities and screenings, including a live meditation session, analog glitch demos/workshops, and VHS screenings.

Pink Vibrations Exhibition Highlights

Interactive Glitch Photo Booth

For this photo booth experience, users take control over the glitch module (for this event, we primarily used the Psychenizer by Tachyons+) and glitch out their image to their liking. Using the touch screen, the user gets the option to save an animated gif and/or print out photo strips of their glitched out photos.

The photo boot is visually reminiscent of some sort of muppet, with bubblegum pink faux fur and an eye surrounding the lens of the camera. We had a lot of fun with the construction and design of this glitch photobooth.

VHS Releases (and Screenings)

Over the course of the summer, Jen and I created three VHS features and released them during the exhibit:

  • Factory Reset: Space & Time-Based Corrector - meditation video

  • Pet Vibes TV - video treat for pets (and humans) with music by Eeeka, Jessica Albatross, M Moskaliuk, and Tundra

  • Re(Boot) Camp: Restore Your Hardware - workout video

Live Performances and Activities

During the exhibition, we had two days of events. On opening night, Jessica Albatross, M Moskaliuk, and Tundra performed live as we did live visuals for the performances.

Additionally, we hosted a live meditation session and invited guests into the glitch lab for demos so they could get hands on with liquid light projections and analog glitch gear.
